About

This simple coffee maker is very affordable, and produces top-quality coffee and espresso with a bit of practice. The unit itself is compact and produces between one and three cups of coffee at a time.

AeroPress Inc. was originally part of a company called Aerobie, and it has a fascinating history. It was founded in 1984 by Alan Adler, a retired engineering instructor from Stanford University. At the company’s founding, it was actually manufacturing and selling sporting goods that Adler had designed! This includes the Aerobie Pro flying ring which was used to set the Guinness World Record for the farthest thrown object.

It wasn’t until 2004 that Adler began to study the coffee brewing process and different coffee maker designs. In 2005 Aerobie introduced its first AeroPress coffee maker at a coffee industry trade show.

The Aerobie company didn’t stop making sports toys but continued to make sports products and its AeroPress coffee makers for about ten years. In 2017 the company sold its assets and stopped making sports toys and changed its name to AeroPress Inc. Since that time, the company has entirely focused on the manufacturing of coffee makers.

Alan Adler still owns the company with his wife, and its products are US-made. However, AeroPress Inc. is continuing to make a global name for itself as Alan Adler continues to analyze different coffee maker designs and work on new coffee-making inventions to expand the AeroPress product line. Adler now holds over 40 patents to his name!

The AeroPress Original debuted to critical acclaim in 2005 and is now sold in over 80 countries. Its popularity continues to this day where fan-driven World AeroPress Championships take place. Creative coffee lovers from over 60 countries use their favorite AeroPress recipes to compete for making the best cup of coffee.

Manufacturing Notes

Despite becoming a global phenomenon, where some of the biggest markets for AeroPress coffee makers include the United Kingdom, Europe, Canada, and Australia, the AeroPress continues to be fully made in the USA.

They take great pride in this fact and though they know it’s not the best economic choice, they remain dedicated to making it in the US, believing it makes the supply chain a lot shorter, quicker and more reliable to help them distribute to the 65 countries they operate in.

Based in Palo Alto, California, AeroPress, Inc’s contracts are also based in America, with a warehouse in San Carlo, California, and factories in Livermore, California, and Woodstock, Illinois. Despite being such a large organization, the company only has nine full-time employees, with all other workers being contractors or independent representatives.

AeroPress, Inc is very transparent about its manufacturing process and materials. They state that all materials used in AeroPress coffee makers are made in the USA and are free of BPA and phthalates and are FDA and EU approved for use in contact with food.

Since 2014, both the AeroPress Original and AeroPress Go are now fully made of polypropylene (except the silicone seal) as tests indicated that it was more durable, despite meaning it was less transparent. Since 2018, they’ve used a silicone seal which is also made in the USA and FDS and EU approved for use in contact with food. Silicone was used as it’s a common material for kitchen implements and baking because of its non-toxicity, resistance to heat, and durability.

All AeroPress coffee makers are free of phthalates and BPA and are also nearly fully recyclable. Polypropylene plastic, which both coffee makers are primarily made from is recyclable and the paper micro-filters are both recyclable and compostable. It’s only the plunger seal and lid of the AeroPress Go mug that are not recyclable.

If you’re looking for a coffee maker that has the ability to produce rich, smooth coffee without bitterness, no grit, and low acidity that’s quick and easy to brew with an even quicker clean-up time, then the AeroPress coffee maker is for you. It also had the huge bonus that you’re supporting a fully USA-made product and business by buying one.
