Best NASCAR Headsets Made in the USA

We researched, purchased, and tested NASCAR headsets made in the USA to find the best products to tote with you to the speedway for years to come. Below are our recommendations along with the factors that we considered in our research. You’ll want a scanner to go with your headset as well, so we did the research for you on those as well.

Our Findings

If you go to more than a few NASCAR races in your life, investing in a quality racing headset is a great choice. They are available for rent at the track, but will cost you $35 per headset at a minimum, so buying makes sense if you attend more than 2-3 races. The top of the line headsets are made by Racing Electronics in Concord, NC (they also make scanners). Race Day Electronics is your cheaper option, but without losing too much quality. Check out our top picks below – we broke out a few different options based on the types of features you’re looking for.

Best Pair of NASCAR Headsets

Racing Electronics Gemini 5 Intercom System

Need headsets for two? The Racing Electronics Gemini 5 Intercom System is a great choice. The combo pair is cheaper in total than getting two Racing Electronics Gem-5 headsets separately, without sacrificing virtually anything in sound quality and usability. This combo comes with two headsets and all of the appropriate cords you need to operate your scanner and intercom system. The Gemini 5 Intercom System is my go-to for NASCAR races (I go to at least 3 per year) – I bought this pair several years ago and it has never let me down. Made in North Carolina, along with several other amazing brands.

Most Reliable NASCAR Headset

Racing Electronics RE-58 Platinum Headphones

These Racing Electronics RE-58 Platinum headphones are the “old reliable” selection of headsets. They are even used by pit crewmen across all three NASCAR circuits. You can plug them into a radio scanner or your cell phone with the NASCAR app to listen to audio for your favorite drivers. The band that goes over the top of your head makes this headset one-size-fits-all and helps keep it sturdy on your head – we didn’t experience any movement when walking around. The speaker quality is solid, comparable to other top headsets. The RE-58 will last for years to come, a great long-term investment.

Racing Electronics Gemini 5 Intercom Headphones

The RE Gem-5 Intercom Headphones are the top of the line intercom headsets for racegoers. These headphones are the go-to choice for crew chiefs and spotters across all three NASCAR series. For the fan, these headsets allow you to speak with your friends in the stands during the race, without worry about the track noise. The intercom system is super easy to operate and the volume level is simple to adjust as needed. The RDE-058 is also great for applications other than racing like listening to music or an audio book while you mow your lawn. Recap: Best Headsets for a NASCAR Race

Factors We Considered

Audio Quality

You can’t sacrifice sound quality when you’re listening to your favorite drivers at the track. We researched only the best NASCAR headsets for quality, and eliminated several headphones that didn’t meet our standards. Clarity is especially important for intercom systems. I personally tested each pair to make sure audio quality was up to par.

We also considered durability of each headset. These are investments that will last you for several years, you want to get a reliable headset that you won’t have to worry about it breaking. My RE headset has been banged around a few times and still works like a chime.

Comfort is really important when you’ll be using your headset for 3+ hours at a time. Each of our recommendations passed all of our standards for comfort. We considered:

  • Speaker padding material
  • Adjustable straps
  • Sturdiness
  • Fit for different head sizes (helps reduce pressure and increase comfort)

Value and Price

Nobody likes overpaying. We compared the price of every headset to the quality of the product to make sure you are getting a great deal for your headset. If you’re thinking about renting a headset, all of the options we listed are most cost efficient if you go to more than 3 races in your lifetime.
