Best Vitamins

We did the research to find the companies that are making the best vitamins right here in the USA with local ingredients. Below are our findings, along with our opinion on each of our top picks, tons of product details, and the factors that we considered in our research.

Our Findings

Overall, it was tough to find a ton of vitamin companies that are producing their supplements here along with homegrown ingredients. However, we did find a few manufacturers that are doing it right. We broke out our findings into a few popular vitamin categories, including multivitamins, vitamin D, and probiotics. We will keep adding to this list as we find great options for other types of supplements.

Best Men’s Multivitamin

MegaFood – Multi for Men

The MegaFood Multi for Men really stood out in our research because if its ingredients and it’s super easy on your stomach. Not only is this multivitamin made in the U.S., but parts of each vitamin are made from real food and wholesome ingredients that are sourced from MegaFood’s farm partners. This is a great multi for men who don’t want calcium, iron, or magnesium in it, which men actually shouldn’t have in their multivitamin unless specifically recommended by their doctor. You take two tablets per day, and they are not harsh at all so you can even take them on an empty stomach without food. Here are some of the main ingredients and benefits:

  • B vitamins for healthy energy production and nervous system health
  • Choline for memory and cognitive health
  • Iodine
  • Methylated folate and B12
  • P5P (the active form of B6)

Once again, it is super easy to take (even on an empty stomach) and doesn’t leave much of a bitter aftertaste. Here are some of the unique ingredients just for women, which really help support a healthy response to normal hormonal fluctuations. Note: this multivitamin is also made without calcium and magnesium, so they recommend that you also take their Bone Health supplement if you would like those as well.

Best Kid’s Multivitamin

Lil Critters Gummy Vites Complete Multivitamin

As one of the top selling kids vitamins on the market, it’s clear that parents trust their gummy vitamins. Best of all, they are made in the USA! Lil Critters really stood out from the competition because of their balance nutritional value, good taste, and great ingredients. Each gummy vitamin is packed with vitamins A, B-12, B6, C, D and E, which are all essential for healthy development at an early age. In terms of taste, each pack of vitamins comes with a few assorted flavors, each of which we found to be tasty: blueberry, cherry, pineapple, orange, and strawberry. A lot of kids vitamins will also take shortcuts with their ingredients, but Lil Critters is making their vitamins the right way with no gluten, no synthetic dyes, and no high fructose corn syrup.

Recap: Best Vitamins Made in the USA

Factors We Considered

Source of Ingredients

The source of the ingredients is often the #1 thing to look for in a safe vitamin or supplement. Ingredients from China are often very unreliable. Additionally, we avoided any vitamins that had both calcium and iron in them, which can clash when they are taken together, affecting the ability for both of them to get absorbed properly.

We also looked for vitamins that have activated forms of nutrients (like P5P mentioned above), which helps speed up the effectiveness of that nutrient, essentially bypassing the activation process that your body would have to perform.

Synthetic Fillers

Fillers can sneak up on you don’t look at the ingredients list carefully (luckily, we did that for you). They are often used to extend the product’s shelf life, make it look or taste better, or make it cheaper to manufacture. These fillers can come in the form of synthetic colors, artificial preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, corn, soy, wheat, and many other forms. We avoided all of these during our research.

Other Safety Measures

Ingredients and fillers are a big part of safety, but we took extra precautions and looked at supplement strength, packaging, and storage. In terms of strength and size, here are some of the common terms you see on vitamin packages and what they mean:

  • RDA – recommended dietary allowance
  • AI – adequate intake
  • UL – tolerable upper intake level
  • DV – daily value

We also looked for bottles that have kids safety lock on them and can be stored safely in your cabinet or pantry without being refrigerated.

Easy to Take

Your daily vitamins should be easy to swallow and, ideally, not leave a bad aftertaste (although that wasn’t a deal breaker for us if the vitamin has the best nutritional value). We tried each vitamin to ensure they were easy to take.

Value

A lot of companies with throw fancy ingredient names at you and jack up the price on their supplements. We want to make sure you get the best vitamins for your money, so we eliminated several choices where the quality of the product didn’t match the price tag.
