We discovered Buck Mason a little while back during our t-shirt research and absolutely love their story and passion for American made, so we decided to give their apparel a try. We bought two Slub Curbed Hem Tees and one Long Sleeve Slub Curved Hem Tee in a few different colors and I have been wearing them for the last couple of months.
Below are my thoughts on Buck Mason, these tees, and my experience with them. To cut to the chase, they are some of my favorite tees that I own. Let's get into it.
About Buck Mason
Buck Mason got started in 2013 by Sasha Koehn and Erik Allen, two neighbors living in Venice, California. They wanted to make fashion less complicating, taking a modern approach to American classics that you can wear any day.
They started out in a little 350 square foot garage doing small batch orders and quickly grew from there. Today, Buck Mason can produce over 1,000 t-shirts per day and they've been increasing their U.S. production 100% per year since 2014. So, this isn't our typical story of a brand being steadfast in its dedication to American manufacturing throughout its entire history. Rather, a comeback story of a brand that re-committed to domestic production and now has a huge selection of apparel that is made here.
Buck Mason has t-shirts for both men and women and they come in a lot of styles, which we'll get into right now with my experience.
What We Like Best
The number one criteria for most people when it comes to t-shirts is comfort, and Buck Mason has plenty of it. Both the short-sleeve and long-sleeve versions of the Slub Curved Hem Tee that I purchased are incredibly soft and I can wear them around all day. The 100% slub cotton is also incredibly breathable and lightweight, so these are good summer tees.
Both versions of the Slub Curved Hem Tee have an accurate fit (for me, at least) around the shoulders and torso. I am a size large, and these t-shirts had the athletic, modern fit that I am accustomed to for that size. We'll get to the length of the tees a bit later.
Another feature I really appreciated about these tees is the color selection, and not just because there is a lot to choose from. The color palette is very non-traditional - there are no bold, basic tones that you'll find on any standard color wheel. Each tee style has 9-10 colors to choose from that are more subtle, like an off-teal or sandstone pigment. These colors can go with a lot of different outfits.
Buck Mason offers a lot of style options for their tees.
For the men, they offer a curved hem tee, like the ones I bought and tested, and a classic tee with a straight-line waist. They also offer a V-neck and crew neck option and short and long-sleeve varieties, all of which can be mixed and matched.
For the women, Buck Mason has a lot of the same style options. In addition, they have cropped t-shirts, tanks, boyfriend tees, and more.
Lastly, these t-shirts are incredibly easy to care for. I've gotten a couple of small stains on mine that have come out in the wash no problem. They also don't have any noticeable pilling after several washes, so durability is good thus far.
What We Don't Like
The only constructive comment I have for these Buck Mason tees is the length of the curved hem. I bought the Standard length and was expecting it to be a bit longer based on the other size large t-shirts I own. However, I love that Buck Mason has length options, so you can order the short, standard, or tall length depending on your height. If you like a longer tee and the curved hem style, I would recommend going with the Tall option (for reference, I am 5'9" with a pretty standard torso size).
Overall, I absolutely love these Buck Mason tees. Both the short-sleeve and long-sleeve options are very comfortable, durable, and stylish. They put a lot of thought and care into the style and color options available in their store and have produced a great product (I'll go for the tall length option next time). I will definitely be wearing these tees for years to come. What do you think? Do you have any Buck Mason tees? Let us know what you think.
