Reusable Face Masks Made in the USA

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on our nation. Many states now have mask mandates, so if you’re going to wear one, make sure you wear one that is made in the USA and supports American businesses. We did the research to help you find those companies that are producing reusable face masks made in the USA. Below are our findings along with some resources to help you stay safe in your local community.

I also want to say, we are not medical professionals. All of these masks are meant to help you stay safe, but are not medical devices and will not guarantee that you don’t contract the coronavirus or other diseases. Use at your own risk.

Our Findings

Overall, we found a ton of small businesses producing reusable American made face masks. However, many of them were out of stock or severely backordered, so we decided to highlight five companies that have masks with a snug fit, made of quality materials, and seem to have good inventory available. Most of our top picks have a pouch for you to insert a filter if you wish to do so. A lot of them also have a wide variety of style options. Below, you’ll find all the details on each of our top picks.

Recommendations: Going Deeper

Below you’ll find more details on each of our recommendations, including what we liked and didn’t like about each one.

American Giant

Cotton, Basic White

American Giant is one of our favorite jeans made in the USA, and since the pandemic outbreak, they’ve stepped up to produce high quality, basic white cotton face masks. Their masks are made from 100% cotton and sewn in their factory in Middlesex, North Carolina. The masks are machine washable up to 15 times before you should discard it and should be pretty comfortable with a snug fit for most folks. Keep in mind, these are not sized for children though. Some of our other top picks below have specific kids options that you can check out. If you’re looking for a basic white cotton face mask though, American Giant is a good option.

Blade + Blue

Cotton, Filter Pouch

If you’re looking for a face mask with a fancier print, Blade + Blue is a good option. Blade + Blue is actually one of our favorite boxers made in the USA, and similar to American Giant, has dedicated tons of production time to face masks recently. They have other 30 patterns to choose from, so you should be able to find a mask that fits your style if you like prints like this one. Each mask has a filter pouch and each order comes with a 10-pack of filters as well. Each filter can be used for 8-10 hours and should be thrown away after that. These masks are a bit more delicate than the other cotton ones on our list, so Blade + Blue recommends hand washing the mask and hang drying it.

Subzero Masks

Cotton, Filter Pouch

Subzero is a company that is dedicated to making masks. Not only do they have masks for adults and kids, but they also make face shields, filters, and some apparel. Their face masks are made from 95% cotton and 5% polyester and include a pouch for inserting filters. Their around-the-ear loops are adjustable as well, so most people should be able to get a snug fit. They also come in a bunch of different styles that you can browse through. One of my favorite things about Subzero though is they have a 1-for-1 donation policy – for every Subzero mask purchased, they donate a mask to an at-risk individual.

Lifetime Leather Co

Polyester, Filter Pouch

Lifetime Leather is another company that has expanded their typical operations to produce face masks. As the name suggests, they produce a lot of awesome handmade leather goods like wallets, belts, bags, and more in their Arizona workshop. Their face mask is made from polyester and comes in varieties for both adults and kids. What is unique about their masks is the style choices and leather holder that you can connect to the straps of the face mask around your head, which can be more comfortable for folks who don’t like the around the ear loop options. This mask is machine washable and comes with a filter pocket if you want use filters.

Dearborn Denim

Cotton, Behind the Head

Dearborn Denim is another one of our favorite denim companies made in the USA. They are producing knit cotton masks with a behind the head tie for a more comfortable fit if you don’t like the around the ear options. The mask comes in 3 sizes and color varieties, which should be a good fit for most kids and adults (get the small option for your kids). Each mask also has a pouch for inserting filters. They do prioritize delivery speed over color selection, so you might get a different color than you selected if they ran out of that inventory. A small sacrifice in the grand scheme of things. If you like the behind the head tie, Dearborn Denim is a good option.
