Face Masks Made in the USA

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on our nation. Many states have mask mandates, so if you’re going to wear one, make sure you wear one that is made in the USA and supports American businesses. We did the research to help you find those companies that are producing disposable and reusable face masks made in the USA. Below are our findings along with some resources to help you stay safe in your local community.

I also want to say, we are not medical professionals. All of these masks are meant to help you stay safe, but are not medical devices and will not guarantee that you don’t contract the coronavirus or other diseases. Use at your own risk.

Our Findings

Overall, we found a ton of small businesses producing American made face masks. However, some of them were out of stock or severely backordered, so we decided to highlight five companies that have masks with a snug fit, made of quality materials, and seem to have good inventory available. Most of our top picks have a pouch for you to insert a filter if you wish to do so. A lot of them also have a wide variety of style options. Below, you’ll find all the details on each of our top picks.

Recommendations: Going Deeper

Below you’ll find more details on each of our recommendations, including what we liked and didn’t like about each one.

All American Clothing

Cotton, Basic Black

American Giant is one of our favorite jeans made in the USA, and since the pandemic outbreak, they’ve stepped up to produce high quality, basic black cotton face masks. Their masks are made from 96% cotton and 4% spandex and made in California. The reusable masks are machine washable and should be pretty comfortable with a snug fit for most folks. Keep in mind, these are not sized for children though. Some of our other top picks below have specific kids options that you can check out. If you’re looking for a basic black cotton face mask though, All American Clothing is a good option.

3 Layer, Disposable

Ceemly is a new company that emerged out of necessity because of the pandemic. The group behind it has a background in industrial soft-goods manufacturing and put their facilities to work once they saw a need for mask manufacturing by American workers with American materials. These are disposable surgical masks and sold in a large 50 count box, so if you want masks to have around the office or home and you prefer a disposable version, Ceemly is a great American made option. All of their masks are 3Ply for good protection and are very flexible to make sure you can cover your whole mouth and nose without any gaps.

Blade + Blue

Cotton, Filter Pouch

If you’re looking for a face mask with a fancier print, Blade + Blue is a good option. Blade + Blue is actually one of our favorite boxers made in the USA, and similar to American Giant, has dedicated tons of production time to face masks recently. They have other 30 patterns to choose from, so you should be able to find a mask that fits your style if you like prints like this one. Each mask has a filter pouch and each order comes with a 10-pack of filters as well. Each filter can be used for 8-10 hours and should be thrown away after that. These masks are a bit more delicate than the other cotton ones on our list, so Blade + Blue recommends hand washing the mask and hang drying it.

Things we don’t like:

  • Have to hand wash

Subzero Masks

Cotton, Filter Pouch

Subzero is a company that is dedicated to making masks. Not only do they have masks for adults and kids, but they also make face shields, filters, and some apparel. Their face masks are made from 95% cotton and 5% polyester and include a pouch for inserting filters. Their around-the-ear loops are adjustable as well, so most people should be able to get a snug fit. They also come in a bunch of different styles that you can browse through. One of my favorite things about Subzero though is they have a 1-for-1 donation policy – for every Subzero mask purchased, they donate a mask to an at-risk individual.

LC King

Cotton, Behind the Head

LC King is another one of our favorite denim companies made in the USA (I particularly like their overalls and have a pair myself). They are producing twill cotton masks with a behind the head tie for a more comfortable fit if you don’t like the around the ear options. The mask comes in just one size, but still should be a good fit for most kids and adults. They come in a lot of different color options as well and have a couple of styles with duck cloth strings and trim. They are made in the same Bristol, Tennessee factory as LC King’s other great apparel items too. If you like the behind the head tie, LC King is a good option.
