About General Electric (GE)

General Electric has been manufacturing appliances for more than 125 years. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, GE Appliances has processing plants in Decatur, Alabama. We have wholly-owned subsidiaries in LaFayette, Georgia, and Selmer, Tennessee.

Haier Group acquired GE Appliances in 2016. GE also includes wholly-owned subsidiary FirstBuild, located in Louisville, Kentucky. Thanks to the innovation of FirstBuild, we can get our best ideas and new products to today’s modern consumers faster.

Our Made in America goods have been made possible by spending more than $1 billion on new factories, machinery, and technologies and insourcing the development of several new products, and improving our teams’ preparation. GE insists that they have recommitted themselves to producing great American-made appliances.

With GE’s dedication to making great American-made appliances, they aim to optimize their products’ U.S. content. Certain parts are not manufactured in the U.S., and others need to be bought globally to keep pricing competitive. That’s why GE’s U.S. content is between 70 to 90%.

With five U.S. sites, GE appliances are built, engineered, and hand-assembled by thousands of American workers.

The specific cumulative U.S. content of this refrigerator is 84%. GE doesn’t stop at appliances; they’re invested in home-grown expertise from transport to customer support to marketing. The U.S. family of GE appliances stretches far and wide.

Purchasing GE appliances is investing in Americans, much like you, your family, and your neighbors. And, you are contributing to the U.S. workers’ local economy.

What We Like Best

  • Fingerprint resistant
  • Door in door convenience
  • Temperature-controlled drawers
  • GE’s TwinChill system
  • Quick space shelf
  • Frost guard

The beautiful stainless steel exterior is easy to wipe smudges and fingerprints form, keeping your appliance sparkly clean. This refrigerator comes in two colors of steel, stainless or black.

The exterior hands-free autofill water dispenser allows you to set your container down, press autofill, and walk away. The water dispenser sensors will stop filling your box when it is almost full of fresh filtered water.

The water filtration system (RPWFE) used is GE’s most sophisticated filtration system. Reviewed and tested to filter five trace pharmaceuticals and certified for the reduction of chlorine-resistant cysts, lead, and 50 other contaminants.

This filtration system reduces 99 percent of Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctane Sulfonate (PFOS). And, features simple filter replacement and a six-month filter life.

If the refrigerator door is left open for too long, the door alarm will sound to alert you to close the door.

The ice maker makes your choice of cubed or crushed ice. There is an optional second ice machine.

There is a swing-out bin for easy access to your most-used items when you open the french doors. The door in door feature is convenient, saves space, allows room for taller items, and means less digging.

If you need more space to accommodate wine bottles or large desserts, you can utilize the quick space shelf. This shelf pushes in to create more room to accommodate your larger items.

Three full-width electronic temperature-controlled drawers allow you to keep your favorite foods at the optimal temperature to increase longevity and freshness.

Frost guard ensures that your appliance will only defrost as needed. The adaptive defrost determines when necessary to defrost and how long the defrost cycle needs to run.

LED lights throughout the interior of the refrigerator spotlight foods there and in the freezer. The LED light on the water dispenser makes getting a drink of water at night much more manageable.

The separate climate controls, GE’s TwinChill system, uses dual evaporators in each compartment to prevent odors from transferring and freezer burn. The TwinChill system allows the appliance to retain different conditions in both fresh food and freezer compartments.

This system regulates temperature and humidity, keeping food fresh. Cold, dry air remains in the freezer compartment to protect the freezer food from freezer burn, and more warm air stays in the fresh food portion to keep fresh food fresh longer.

What We Wish Was Different

  • Costs for replacement parts and repair can be expensive
  • The running sound could be quieter

Though the GE Profile Series Refrigerator is a beautiful appliance with many carefully-considered features and components, one of its few flaws is getting replacement parts for repair and cost. Due to some parts only being available on the global market, repairing this fridge can take longer and be expensive, depending on the piece required.

The only other flaw is the loudness of the appliance while running. It could be quieter but a small inconvenience compared to the overall qualities, amenities, features, and components.

Wrapping Up

Overall, the GE Profile Series Refrigerator is an excellent buy for modern kitchens. This product has a limited 1-year entire appliance and limited 5-year refrigerating system parts warranties. The labor warranty ensures a limited 1-year entire appliance and limited 5-year sealed refrigeration system.

If the humming sound of this refrigerator doesn’t annoy you, and you realize that changing parts will take longer and be more costly, this is a perfect multi-functional, sleek addition to your modern kitchen. Know, GE’s dedication to providing the finest appliances produced by American employees with the most American-made components is worth a little bit of sound and potential hassle for parts if a repair is required.
